When COVID-19 hit in 2020, I found myself laid off, wondering if I’d worked my last IT job. Strangely, I was making more money not working than I did when I was employed. While some might have been content, I knew it couldn’t last. I spent that time fishing with my best friend and gaining a fresh perspective on life, but I always knew the good times would end. You can’t keep giving people money without expecting a price, right?

As the benefits ran out, my wife gently reminded me, “You’re going to have to start looking for a job.” It was time to get back to work, but the job market was tough. I sent out resumes, and my wife helped me fill out applications, but all we heard was silence. The summer passed, and while the job market improved slightly, it wasn’t enough to give me confidence. Finally, in October, I took a part-time temp job, and by the day after Christmas, I was back in the workforce full-time.

My story is like so many others from that time. After securing my job, I made a promise to my wife: never again would I put our family in a position where we had nothing to fall back on. She reassured me that I had done nothing wrong and had always provided for our family, but I knew I had to do more.

That’s when I started thinking—what could I do from home to make money? I launched an e-commerce store and built it from scratch. It wasn’t easy, and the pandemic posed its own challenges, but it was a start. I worked on that store for two years before moving in a different direction.

Over time, I learned that while I may be an acquired taste for some, when you find people who understand your goals, they become friends. My friend and I discovered that we loved the side hustle. We weren’t where we wanted to be, but we knew where we wanted to go. And that’s how The Side Hustle Crew was born.

What started as a dream—maybe even a pipe dream to some—has become a reality. Today, we welcome anyone who wants to dream, learn, and join The Side Hustle Crew.
